Living Beneath the Canopy

The towering trees surrounding this home create an atmosphere that feels uniquely Pacific Northwest. Rather than competing with the existing landscape, this garden was designed to celebrate it. Layers of woodland plants were introduced beneath the canopy to provide texture, movement, and seasonal beauty while reinforcing the feeling of being immersed in nature. By focusing on smaller plants and healthy soil, we were able to create a garden that feels established, welcoming, and deeply rooted in its environment.

Before Photos

This property was somehow both crowded and barren. The entry to the home was darkened by large, unruly rhododendrons, Salal and Creeping Mahonia (both wonderful native plants) had to run of the borders, and the owners had a need for additional parking spaces that their current driveway could not accomodate. They also had a desire for the planting to look “like there was some thought put into it”.
