About Fine Pruning
Thoughtful pruning is one of the most important aspects of fine gardening. Rather than shearing plants into the typically seen round “meatball” shapes, I approach pruning with an understanding of each plant’s natural growth habit and seasonal cycles. By selectively guiding growth, pruning encourages healthier plants, better flowering, and a more natural, balanced garden.
The goal is always to enhance the character of the plants—not force them into rigid forms.
I am a Certified Professional Horticulturist through Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association.
I am a certified Master Pruner through Plant Amnesty, an organization dedicated to promoting responsible pruning practices and plant health.
Frequency of Visits
Visit frequency is flexible and tailored to your garden’s needs. I’m happy to recommend a schedule based on the size and condition of your space. Larger or more demanding gardens often benefit from weekly or bi-monthly visits, while smaller gardens or gardens with a green thumb owner may find monthly or quarterly visits helpful. Schedule can also be adjusted seasonally to support your garden throughout the year.

A Note On Herbicide and Pesticide Use
The cavalry has arrived!
My approach to garden care is guided by a strong commitment to ecological responsibility. While my practices are not strictly certified organic, they come very close.
I do not use pesticides of any kind. In most cases, insects are an essential part of a healthy garden ecosystem—they provide food for beneficial insects, birds, and other wildlife that help maintain natural balance. For this reason, I generally allow nature to do its work.
Herbicide use is extremely limited and reserved only for particularly persistent invasive plants such as blackberry and ivy. In those cases, I use a targeted product designed to affect the roots without leaching into surrounding soil.
If pest problems begin to cause significant damage to a plant, I approach the situation thoughtfully and seek out the most responsible solution on a case-by case basis.
My goal is always to support healthy gardens that are beautiful, resilient, and in harmony with the natural environment.
Fine Gardening FAQs
How do you charge?
1
My fine gardening services are billed hourly, with visit frequency and scope tailored to the unique needs of each garden. I’m happy to discuss rates and recommend a care schedule during an initial consultation.
What areas do you serve?
2
I provide fine gardening services throughout Snohomish County and North King County, including Everett, Mukilteo, Lake Stevens, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Shoreline, Bothell and their nearby communities. If you don’t see your area listed but would still like to learn more about my services, do not hesitate to reach out.
Do you provide plants or new plantings?
3
Yes. I can assist with plant selection, planting, and garden improvements as part of ongoing maintenance or as a separate project (plants are billed separately from gardening charges).
What if I’m not sure what my garden needs?
4
That’s completely ok! Many clients reach out because they feel unsure where to begin or their garden has gotten a bit out of hand. During the initial visit, I’ll walk through the garden with you, assess the space, and suggest a practical approach to caring for it moving forward. Whether the garden needs a fresh start, ongoing care, or just occasional support, together we can create a plan that works for you.
Fine gardening focuses on the detailed care of ornamental gardens. I do not provide services such as lawn care, large tree work, hardscape installation, or heavy landscape construction. If your garden requires those services, I’m always happy to recommend trusted professionals.
