About Jolis Jardins, Fine Gardening & Design
Jolis Jardins began sooner than I expected. Right after completing the Horticulture Program at Lake Washington Technical College, my professor approached me with an opportunity — he'd seen my enthusiasm for gardening and knew I hoped to start my own business one day. A former student was retiring her Seattle gardening business and needed someone to take over her roughly 15 clients. I said yes, and Jolis Jardins was born.
In the early years, the work was almost entirely fine gardening — hands-on, in the garden, getting to know each client's space in detail. But landscape design had always drawn me, even back in the program, and it wasn't long before clients started asking for design work too — then referring me to friends and family for it. Over time, design became a bigger part of the business, and I began building a small team to support the fine gardening side, so I could spend more of my time where my passion had grown: designing gardens.
About Alice
My name is Alice Harriott, and I am a garden designer and fine gardener whose work is grounded in environmental horticulture and inspired by a deep love of gardens as places of beauty, reflection, and everyday life.
My path to serious gardening and garden design began during the pandemic, when time spent working in the garden became something more than a hobby. Gardening offered a sense of calm and connection during an uncertain time, and what began as curiosity about plants grew into a deeper fascination with how gardens are created and how they shape the way we live in our outdoor spaces.
That experience led me to pursue an Associate's Degree in Environmental Horticulture, where I developed the horticultural knowledge needed to design and care for gardens that are both beautiful and resilient. After completing the program, I went on to earn my Certified Professional Horticulturist credential through WSNLA and become a Master Pruner through Plant Amnesty. That commitment to learning continues today, through ongoing engagement with fellow designers, gardeners, and industry associations — staying current on new techniques and eco-friendly practices so every garden benefits from the best of what's out there.
